Many cultures celebrate baby’s 100th day, and photo shoot to commemorate the day is such a fun add on! As Walnut Creek is such a culturally diverse area, I’ve been honored to photograph many 100 days sessions.
I often get asked logistically how these work. 100 days falls between 3-4 months. This means newborn poses are no longer appropriate or practical. Baby isn’t even close to sitting independently (and safely) at this age.
This makes photographing their face at non awkward angles a bit difficult to achieve. One thing I always like to have parents consider is either doing this session in their home, or from my studio in downtown Martinez. This allows me to easily position your baby to have them in a “lounging” position. Their head will be visible and it gives more variety than just photographing them from above.
Another benefit of photographing baby from this “lounging” position is they can see mom and dad! This not only keeps baby calm, but can help direct their attention where I need it for their photos.
I LOVE when families bring a traditional outfit for their little ones 100 days photo session. The colors are beautiful and vibrant, and just imagine being able to share these as your little one grows! I was lucky enough to be gifted a qi pao from my mother in law for my daughter’s 100 days photos. Now I have a beautiful garment and adorable photos to pass down to her.
It’s always an option to add a more day to day outfit as well!
Most importantly, with the coming of your baby’s 100 days, means your family has also been together for 100 days. If you’re first time parents, your parenthood is now 100 days! I love when families choose to add on family photos to their 100 days photo shoot. It only adds a small amount of time to the session, but adds so much variety! I always photograph each parent alone with the baby, and then everyone together.
Since these are time specific, I strongly recommend booking in advance, particularly if the 100 days falls in Sept – Nov (the busiest time for family photographers).
If you’re interested in a studio session, you can book a children’s portrait session or a mini family session if you’d like family photos as well.
I can always do these sessions outside if that is your preference – particularly if you will be using these for your yearly family photos. Choosing the correct location is extremely important in this case. We need a spot to safely put baby on the ground for their solo photos. If you’d like to learn more about my traditional outdoors family sessions, I have tons of information on my website.
