Rainy Family Photography – Walnut Creek

Walnut Creek is going to have rainy falls…

Not much we can do about that! Unfortunately as Bay Area residents, we know that we get all our rain for the year in the fall and winter. It’s frustrating that rainy weather falls right when everyone wants their yearly family photos. Luckily Walnut Creek is fairly warm so you can still have your family photography session! As long as your outfits are weather appropriate, get those photos!

If you’ve seen my photography portfolio, you know I love gorgeous golden sunny photos! (Lucky for me, Walnut Creek has no shortage of awesome locations to get that look!) If you luck out and your family photography session doesn’t have rain, it still might be fairly dreary. Cloudy day looks can be just as beautiful! I’ll share a few from my 2022 fall family photography sessions!

This photo above was one of my 2022 fall family photography sessions. It was a super rainy weekend and luckily the family was able to meet me in the morning to avoid the rain. What we didn’t avoid was the clouds. Cloudy days create such a beautiful soft light and can really allow the subject to be the stars of the photo! Below is another family on a cloudy day. Again, the soft light from the clouds really lights them perfectly!

Embrace the Rain!

Since we can’t change our lovely Walnut Creek weather, some choose to embrace it for their family photography sessions! I have a handful of cute clear umbrellas that photograph so perfectly and can be a great prop in your fall photos. As long as the rain isn’t pouring, a rainy day session can be both fun, and create some interesting and unique photos for your yearly holiday card.

For this family session, I made sure to get photos of them without the umbrellas first, so they still had that perfect holiday card photo. Then we quickly switched and took some fun photos of them playing and walking in the rain. This was one of my favorite family photography sessions of 2022! There are some very cute umbrellas around, but I prefer the clear ones. These were found at Kohls but if you need them quick Amazon has these and they are perfect!

All that being said, our rainy Walnut Creek winter will soon be bringing some beautiful California wildflowers. I’ll be booking spring wildflower sessions soon in Walnut Creek and Livermore and are great for family and maternity photography sessions.
