John Muir House Wedding
This summer I had the opportunity to photograph a John Muir House Wedding. As a wedding photographer, capturing a ceremony at the John Muir House in Martinez is an absolute delight. It had been on my wish list of places to photograph for the longest time and this summer I was finally given the opportunity! This venue offers a truly unique and picturesque setting for your special day. Nestled just outside of Downtown Martinez, this historic landmark, once home to the renowned naturalist John Muir, provides an enchanting backdrop that seamlessly blends natural beauty with timeless elegance.
Weddings at the John Muir House
The John Muir House allows up to a 20 person wedding ceremony – perfect for a timeless and intimate event. They do not allow flash photography, so make sure your wedding photographer is aware! Your photographer will need specific lenses to photograph this venue without flash.
As the house is a historic landmark, you will not be allowed to move the furniture inside. However, a staff curator assisted us for the duration of our time there. The staff was very attentive and would move a table or chair here and there as we requested. The John Muir Estate allows non amplified music making an acoustic instrument a beautiful addition to your day.
Couples Photos at the John Muir House
The interior of the John Muir house comes beautifully decorated with historic pieces. The windows are dressed with amazing lace curtains, filtering the light for a beautiful dreamy look. Bridal portraits and couples photos look amazing in this light!
The outside grounds are just as pretty! There are plenty of places for beautiful couples photos using either the house itself or the beautiful gardens as a backdrop.

Jenn Chen is a family, maternity and newborn photographer in the Walnut Creek area. While she works with families of all sizes, she specializes in working with young children and toddlers (she has a 2 and 4 year old of her own!). Jenn has been photographing families since 2017 but has had a passion for photography since she was a child. Jenn has a photography studio in downtown Martinez which is currently open for newborn sessions and children’s portraits.
