Three great looks to consider for your fall family photoshoot outfits, and why I love them for your photography session!
These looks were all put together as inspo for fall mini sessions in the redwoods in Oakland, CA, but they are really quite versatile and would look great in a meadow, surrounded by mountains, or even in some urban areas. Make sure to chat with your photographer about what colors they might suggest for your particular location. Many of the outfits in the next looks are from some favorite store of mine – Baltic Born, Zara, Old Navy, and Banana Republic! Many of these looks either include my client closet pieces, or look great mixed in with them!
If you’re searching for a timeless and elegant look for your family, the “Cool and Classic” style is perfect for you. By utilizing muted colors and neutrals, you can create a cohesive and sophisticated look that complements most skin tones. Fall is often associated with warm colors, but this doesn’t mean you have to limit yourself to them. Incorporating dusty blue for the mom allows for a refreshing change.
I then added neutral tops for the men with a bit of color in their pants. You can also opt for a reversal of this by going for a colored top and cream colored pants. To add interest to your outfits, make sure to have at least one family member sporting a bit of print to break up large blocks of color. For instance, this sweet floral dress for the girl could be an excellent choice.
To further elevate your look, consider including accessories. You could add tall socks for the girl, a sweater for the mom, a brown leather jacket for the dad, or a hat for any family member. These items can add texture and depth to your outfits and make them even more appealing. With the “Cool and Classic” style, you can achieve a timeless and sophisticated look while also incorporating some fun and casual elements.
Another option leans into the tendency for warm fall colors, but without the rust and reds, which might not look great on some skin tones. Starting with a beautiful wrap dress for mom, this look pulls out the golden flowers of her dress with a mustard shirt for the boy. Paired with cream pants, this combination is perfect for a fall day. For dad, a neutral top and a different color for the pants is a great way to complete the look. To add one more color without being overpowering, a cute greenish blue dress for the daughter is the perfect fit. This look is perfect for a fall family photoshoot!
If you’re someone who’s not a fan of flowy dresses, I have great news for you! There are plenty of other styles that can fit your fashion preferences. One look that is both cozy and casual is a mix of browns, yellows, and neutrals. It’s perfect for your family photos, and will get plenty of use the rest of the season.
For this look, jeans are a must-have item. They’re comfortable, versatile, and can match almost anything. Pair them with this cute knit sweater that features a mix of colors for a fun twist. As for the rest of the family, encourage them to follow the same color scheme. Browns, yellows, and neutrals are easy to mix and match, and they create an overall cohesive look.
