Maternity Photos at the Martinez Waterfront
A Stormy Day in Martinez
I was at my studio the day of this session when it started HAILING! This mama was heading to the studio to pick out the dress from my client closet. My stomach sank. Because of her rapidly approaching due date, we needed to get this session done!
After a few texts back and forth, we decided to wait it out and see what happened. Luckily, the hail and rain soon let up and we were able to proceed with her maternity photoshoot!

The Waterfront After the Rain
Martinez’s Marina tends to have beautiful sunsets as is, but after the storm, it was unreal! The sky changed every few minutes, each time giving the Marina below a beautiful warm glow. The pathways and various bridges and boardwalks seemed to glow under the setting sun.
As the sun went down further, and we were heading back to our cars, we crossed the popular arch bridge. From the top, we were surprised to see a beautiful rainbow behind us!
My camera was already turned off as we had wrapped up the photoshoot, but we had to stop for one final set of images with the rainbow in the distance!

It was definitely one of those meant to be sessions! Had this not been so close to her due date, we definitely would have rescheduled once it started hailing and then pouring rain!

Maternity sessions are typically done around 30 weeks or a bit after (this gives us time to reschedule in case it… hails). Jenn Chen is a family, maternity and newborn photographer in the Walnut Creek area. While she works with families of all sizes, she specializes in working with young children and toddlers (she has a 2 and 4 year old of her own!). Jenn has been photographing families since 2017 but has had a passion for photography since she was a child. Jenn has a photography studio in downtown Martinez which is currently open for newborn sessions and children’s portraits.
Jenn is a member of NAPCP and as of 2024 was recognized as a “Master of Family Photography” based on her current portfolio. Jenn is also a member of Nikon Professional Services.
