Mommy and Me Mini Sessions in Walnut Creek
What is a Mommy and Me mini session?
Just like it sounds, a mommy and me mini session is a short and sweet session that’s celebrating motherhood in all its forms. These are short sessions where I will meet you in a beautiful East Bay location and document you and your babies just as you are in this season of life. You get to play in the flowers, twirl your dress in the sunshine and cuddle with your little ones. These are meant to capture the unmatched love and connection between a mother and her children.
Why do a Mommy and me mini session?
As a mom myself, these sessions are so dear to me. I’ve witnessed first hand the way you can blink and your tiny little baby has started to crawl. And another blink, and your toddler is putting on their backpack for their first day of school. As the world seems to move faster everyday, I think it’s so important to take the time to slow down and just… be. I’ve tried to compile all my thoughts into three reasons to take the time for a Mommy and Me session.
1. Your babies will want to see pictures of you!
These photos are an investment. Remember how I mentioned the blinking? A few more and they will be going to middle school, high school, and college. How special will it be for them to look back and see these special moments. Photos of the one who has been their for all the celebrations and heartaches – mom.
2. You are always the one behind the camera!
If you’re anything like me, you have thousands of photos of your kids on your phone but how many are with you? And of those, how many are a selfie? With a mommy and me photography session, you will be able to have gorgeous photos of you with your kids! Plenty that you want to share and hang on your walls!
3. Nothing is better than the bond between a mother and her babies
Children feel so safe in their mothers arms. Because of that, they are often able to open up and be so genuine during these sessions. Because the focus is not “everyone look at the camera and smile” and more “play with and snuggle your babies” they often will give those big genuine smiles that you see everyday, but can be hard to capture on camera.
When to book a Mommy and Me Session
Spring is a great time to book a motherhood session. Since the sun still sets relatively early, you can get beautiful golden hour images and not mess up your little ones bed time schedule. Also, if you’re in the Walnut Creek area, you know the hills are a beautiful green and the wildflowers are blooming all over!

Jenn Chen is a family, maternity and newborn photographer in the Walnut Creek area. While she works with families of all sizes, she specializes in working with young children and toddlers (she has a 2 and 4 year old of her own!). Jenn has been photographing families since 2017 but has had a passion for photography since she was a child. Jenn has a photography studio in downtown Martinez which is currently open for newborn sessions and children’s portraits.
