Mustard Flower Mini Sessions in Walnut Creek
Walnut Creek is covered in wild flowers in the spring, making it the perfect time for family or maternity photos. The hills are covered in yellow mustard flowers, orange poppies, and blue lupine! Last year mustard flower mini sessions were the incredibly popular and for a good reason! These are so unique to the Walnut Creek area, and always turn out beautifully! Not to mention, how fun is it to play with your kiddos in a field of wildflowers!?
Spring Wildflowers
Spring is my favorite time of year for photos for one reason… WILD FLOWERS!
Mustard flowers are the first wildflowers of the season – you will see them popping up all over Walnut Creek, Concord, Alamo, Livermore, Milpitas and beyond! Soon our hills will be covered in these pale yellow beauties – especially with all the rain we’ve had!
Perfect for toddlers!
If you’re familiar with my work, you will know I’m all about the toddlers! Wildflower sessions are absolutely PERFECT for kiddos! Something about being in a huge field of flowers makes anyone want to play! Kids will intuitively begin picking flowers for mom (these also are great mothers day sessions for this reason)!
When to book?
Walnut Creek has wildflowers through early summer, but if you really want these beautiful thick fields full of mustard flowers, schedule your photography session early. The flowers will begin popping up in January and will be mostly gone by March. It’s important to get these booked BEFORE you start seeing the huge fields. Once that happens, you usually only have a few weeks, and it might be difficult to get your session.

Jenn Chen is a family, maternity and newborn photographer in the Walnut Creek area. While she works with families of all sizes, she specializes in working with young children and toddlers (she has a 2 and 4 year old of her own!). Jenn has been photographing families since 2017 but has had a passion for photography since she was a child. Jenn has a photography studio in downtown Martinez which is currently open for newborn sessions and children’s portraits.
Jenn is a member of NAPCP and as of 2024 was recognized as a “Master of Family Photography” based on her current portfolio. Jenn is also a member of Nikon Professional Services.
