While I can’t answer this for you, I can let you know what you can expect from a lifestyle / in home newborn session with me! As a mom of 2 little ones myself, these are absolutely my favorite type of sessions to do. These photos will be timeless as I am simply capturing your family, the love and the raw emotions, as is. Plus they will be completely unique - your family, your home, your story.
The other benefit of these sessions is that they are very flexible on timing. While studio sessions have very tight timeframes, these can be done any time! They are most commonly done in the first 1-3 weeks after birth, but can also be done at month 2 or 3 -or later- if you prefer baby a bit more alert, or simply aren't ready a week after giving birth.
My sessions are typically around 90 minutes. The benefit of this is that you won’t be so exhausted by the end of your session.
I’m able to capture more than enough photos during this time since we don’t need your baby to be asleep for the photos like many studio sessions that require 4 hours. Your baby will likely be awake in some photos and drift back to sleep for others - and both are okay! We are aiming to document your real life, after all!
You will have time to feed, change and comfort baby all within the comfort and privacy of your own home.
I bring a neutral colored Moses basket and pillow for some sleeping photos (for newborns only), if requested, but other than that I don’t bring props. I would much rather take photos of your baby sleeping on a blanket that was knitted by your grandma or the first outfit you bought them when you found out you were pregnant. Something personal to your story.
Listen, you just had a baby. Your house does not need to be clean. A few clutter free areas are all it takes for stunning photos. I can strategically angle the camera to capture a beautiful section of your home. Similarly, I have a variety of lenses that will allow me to take photos in smaller rooms.
Your baby doesn’t even need a nursery - we can do your entire session in the living room or your bedroom.
Before your session, I will be in touch to learn about your space so I can come with a plan so you will have nothing to worry about come photo day!
It’s best to book in advance, even though the date won’t be certain. I take only a very small amount of these sessions per month to allow for maximum flexibility since babies will come when they come!
First, I'd love to have a chat. Newborn photos can only be done once and I want to make sure my style fits your needs and vision before we take the next steps.
After that, I will note your due date and then, once your baby arrives, you contact me! We will set a date, usually about 1-2 weeks after birth.
Whether you're ready to book, or would like to learn more, just contact me! I'll send you my session guide so you can make sure I would be the right fit for you!
